1st Topcliffe Beavers & CubsRobin Hood Camp |
The Merry Men gathered in a clearing beyond the Lime tree avenue in early September. The Food store had already been well stocked with ample food from the forest and local village's supplies. After preparing their homes for the week-end, and as darkness approached the merry men attempted to creep up and rescue a damsel in distress (Almeek). Then they make a wide sweep of the area to make sure non of the Sheriff of Nottingham's men were lurking near by to disturb their sleep, having completed these mammoth tasks they settled down to supper and few friendly ghost stories before bed.
Following a good night's sleep the merry men rose to a hearty breakfast prepared by some local wenches (Ikki and Michaela). They then set out to see what lived in the local forest and bring back wood for the fires. At the agreed time the younger member of the band appeared (the Beavers) and there was great excitement as they tended to their livestock and make adjustment to their outfits (made and decorated hobby horses and stitched hats). The mid-day meal was a delight as they cooked their own sausages and twist on open fires. The afternoon was full of fun at a medieval tournament with a cocoa nut shy, lawn darts, battle of the pillow case on the stepping stones and firing cannon at the battlement of Topcliffe castle, ending with a water bomb fight to bring down these ancient walls.
At the end of this exciting afternoon we were joined by our elders (parents) and we all sat down to a mouth watering meal prepared and cooked by the camps very able wenches (once again Ikki did a very good job). We then finished the day with a sing along around the campfire.
Next morning we awoke to find our breakfast prepared once we had eaten our gruel we realised that it was nearly time to start and break camp. We can look back on many happy memories of this camp and hopefully look forward to many more.
